Hey Buddy!
At Terrey Hills Public School school, every kindergarten student is given a Year 6 Buddy to support them during their transition into school life. Having an older student to look up to means our kindergartens always have a friend and someone looking out for them in the playground. This partnership helps foster a sense of belonging and security within the school community.
Year 6 and Kindergarten students participate in a range of activities together throughout the year, including Easter hat making and the Easter parade, as well as excursions such as the Narrabeen coastal trip. These shared experiences help build strong connections between buddies and make school life fun and memorable for both year groups.
Kindergarten 2027 Orientation
Kindergarten Orientation is a valuable program designed to help children and families become familiar with our school community, teachers and classroom environment before starting school. These sessions provide children with an opportunity to build confidence, make new friends and experience some of the routines and activities they will encounter in Kindergarten. Orientation also allows teachers to begin getting to know your child so we can support a positive and successful transition to school.
Our Kindergarten 2027 Orientation program will run on the following dates:
- Kindergarten Orientation - Session 1 Thursday 29 October 9.30am - 11.00am
- Kindergarten Orientation - Session 2 Thursday 5 November 9.30am - 11.00am
Orientation sessions are open to children who have enrolled for 2027.
Parent Information night - Wednesday 21 October 5.30 - 6.00pm
Top Tips for Preparing Your Child for Kindergarten
1. Attend the Kindergarten Orientation Sessions—these sessions provide an excellent opportunity to meet fellow parents, as well as school staff, while your child begins to familiarise themselves with the school environment.
2. Prepare for School Routines—in the weeks leading up to school, begin to familiarise your child with the school schedule. Adjust waking and meal times to align with the school day.
3. Adjust Sleep Routines—if your child still requires a nap during the day, begin the process of gradually reducing their daytime rest to help them adjust to the school schedule.
4. Encourage Independence with School Tasks — assist your child in practicing essential skills, such as putting on and taking off their school jumper, zipping up their bags, and packing and unpacking their school belongings. Teach your child how to open and close their lunch box and unwrap food items independently.
5. Label Personal Belongings— clearly label all of your child’s belongings, including their school hat, and show them where their name is written on each item to ensure they can identify their possessions easily.
